Hey everyone, with communications being down I’ve been able to email a few people I couldn’t call so I decided to set this up as a way for the family to communicate. Just add your comments below. -Kellen

  9. T-Mobile says it has restored wireless service in Southern Louisiana, specifically mentioning Abita Springs (excerpt from news report follows):

T-Mobile first reported Saturday it restored service at several downtown New Orleans wireless transmitters, including a high-capacity cell site running on generator power on the Crowne Plaza Hotel Astor on Canal Street.

Service is now available in much of the New Orleans downtown corridor — including the French Quarter, Convention Center and the Superdome — as well as additional service at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

As of Wednesday, T-Mobile said it has significant wireless coverage across Jefferson, Orleans and St. Tammany Parishes, and North Shore Communities. More specifically, T-Mobile now has wireless service in Abita Springs, Algiers, Almedia, Avondale, Boutte, Bridge City, Covington, Denham, Springs, Destrehan, downtown New Orleans, Elmwood, Greenville, Hammond, Harahan, Kenner, Laplace, Mandeville, Marrero, Metairie, New Sarpy, Ponchatoula, River Ridge, Slidell, St. Rose, Storyville and Westwego.

  10. i have just picked up mom (Aunt Lynne) and Cloice at the airport they have arrived safely.

  11. There is an announcement in the Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper online that says people in some communities, including Abita, don’t have to boil their water now. For details, see http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/090805/new_boil001.shtml.

  12. Everyone-

As you’ve probably surmised by now, Katrina has put a major kink in David and I’s travel plans. Although we will not be able to visit Louisiana next month as we had planned, we have not given up on a trip in the near future.

We are considering Thanksgiving at the earliest and Mardi Gras at the latest. I am hoping that when we come down, we will be able to drink coffee with Uncle Oliver in his kitchen on Annette St. That’s one of my favorite parts of a Louisiana visit. And Annette St still floats today….

I was glad to hear that Aunts Melba and Vera are back in their own beds, I think that goes a long way towards they’re getting past this whole thing. I was having trouble imaging Melba out of her ‘space’! :)

Please pass this on to Uncle Larry & Peggy and to V & M. God Bless-

    -gina

  13. I will pass it on to your Aunt Lynne also, I am sure you did not mean to leave her out especially since today is her 25th wedding anniversary. God Bless to you also-

  14. Happy Anniversary Lynne & Cloice! :)

  20. Amy,
I’m sorry I haven’t been online lately, but my son’s father(my ex) has been battling cancer so I have been with my son, Quinten. They took his father off of life support today and he is still “hanging on”. We have only been aware of the cancer for a couple of weeks now, and didn’t know the extinct of it until a few days ago. Yesterday evening he took a turn for the worse , which was a complete shock to my son.So as of now…this minute…we are waiting for him to join the rest of our and his loved ones in a better place. I will call you probably in the next day or so….This is a very hard thing for me to go thru…watching my 16 year old watch his father die…….Please say a prayer for Quinten..for he will miss his dad…they were very, very close..I will update later…I have to keep phone line open, for that dreaded phone call..
    Beth

  21. Dear Beth,
I am so sorry to hear about Quinten’s dad, yes I will pray, for all of you. It is sad that he has to experience this, on top of all the other troubles in the world just now,
We can ask God for a special angel to comfort him and you.
My mother told me tonight that the families we were trying to locate are safe in Abita so we as a family have so much to thank God for. It is so difficult when someone is very ill, but even in this situation there may be found some blessings.
God’s Love to you and your family, Amy

  22. Amy,
Quinten’s Dad passed this morning at 3:35…Quinten asked me if that was “the call” when the phone rang….he was upset, but drifted off to sleep. It just hurts me to see my child hurt. But he will be ok…..Thank you for your prayers. Quinten still has a long road ahead, but he will be strong….he has a lot of friends and family to help him with his loss. Beth

  23. Hello family….if anyone would like to send a hello to Quinten in his time of loss he would probably appreciate it. He feels lost right now. His dad’s funeral is Tuesday. It would be nice if he could hear from a few of you that he hasn’t even met. Right now, he realizes that family is very important and precious. Even though he has A LOT of family support here…..hearing from someone from somewhere else would let him know that EVERYONE cares and later when you all do get to meet him, he will remember the hello…thank you….Beth.Our address is…. 24. Thank God to hear you’re all right! I was down in Abita last December with my son Thomas and am blessed to find this site and get more news on how my cousins are doing. We live in Phoenixville, Pa and have space available if anyone needs to get away for awhile. We would also like to help out financially in any way we can. If you have an address we can send mail to, please let me know. You are all in our prayers and we’re willing to help. I have heard from Gayle Daniel and Fabian and they are all doing okay. You can reach me on my cell, 610-996-8945, if you want too. Take care and may God bless you with His grace and peace!

  25. Allanagh & Jim Sewell

Jim & I will NEVER stay for another storm. We are quite thankful that we are alive and well. We stayed during this storm and we really thought we were going to die. The winds and tornadoes in our area were scary. We lost most of our 10-acre fence, some trees, lots of limbs, barn damage and extensive roof damage that has affected four rooms in the house with water damage. And the worst was that one of our horses, Star-Baby, was hit my a piece of flying tin from the barn roof. Thank goodness she looks like she is going to make it. But, we are not complaining. We still have a roof over our head and we are alive. Nerves are shattered and it has been quite stressful. We just got power Saturday night, September 10. Still no phone or cell phone service. Just returned to work. Things are slowly becoming normal again. Glad to hear all others are okay. Will try to visit those in Abita this week to revisit.

  26. Dear Beth,
Our prayers are still with you and Quentin, I will send him a card, I am sorry you both had to go thru this.
    Love, Amy

  29. Jim, Allanagh & Amy,
Quinten read what you all wrote…thanks…he is a lost boy right now…even though he is 16…he was still his Dad’s “liitle” boy. They were very close…..but he will be ok…..time will heal all wounds….time heals wounds…but the scar stays…..Thanks… Beth

  30. Dear Everybody-
It’s day 20th I believe and the settlement family group in Abita Springs is still without electricity, water, telephone and gas. Those who are in control of power needs are telling us to be patient it want be much longer.(Ha) But our spirits are still holding on. If Aunt Lynne reads this your refrig and freezer are cleaned(By day 8th the swollen and foamy was totally disgusting, your artsian has been a blessing and your psycho(cosmo)is fine-I think he’s beginning to like me. Jared and Seth both got jobs with the clean up Louisiana tree services that are scattered throughout the Parish. Streets you once knew don’t look the same anymore-Hopefully our Louisiana will be as good as new soon…….
    Sending all Love,
    Laurette

  31. Dear Everyone(especially Allanagh):
Type O: won’t instead of want in the sentence referring power needs.

  34. Hello to all the Flotts in Louisiana! You’ve been in my thoughts and prayers over these last several weeks. Reference item #83 on this site – a Flott Family Reunion is being planned for early August 2006 in Myrtle Beach, SC. Louisiana Flotts are welcome to attend. Send me an email, and I’ll get the information to you! flott@noos.fr is my email address.

May you know you are in the palm of His hand.

  35. To all the Flotts,
It is wonderful to be able to read about our family and to know that all seem to be well. If there is anything that we from Indiana/Illinois can do please let us know.
    Chris Pfeifer (Ramona’s son)
    My e-mail is hompfei@netnitco.net
May God bless you and keep you.

  36. Dear, Dear Kellen,

Kudos to you and “the band of Angels” who helped you put this project together. I read 15 pages worth last week and the more I read, the more facinated at the scope and far reaching of it.
We are still sans gas, electricty and a phone that goes and comes, but we are truly blessed. We have our house in good shape and many angels helping with all our needs. I won’t name names as you know who you are. Some keeping us supplied with ice, water, ect. Some who welcomed us with much love into their home, gave up their beds for us and fed us for almost a week. Today is September 22, 2005, and we are still being taken care of, such as baths and laundry.
Latest count in Abita was 13 homes beyond repair, 76 major damages, 31 minor damages, but so far no deaths while the poor folks in N.O. have lost homes and all their possessions, but the sadest part is the ones who lost loved ones, some whose bodies will never be found. The ones who were found, they don’t know if and when they will ever have a decent burial.
    They need our prayers.
So to all the ones who helped and still are helping, “Love is flowing like a river”. And in my daily prayers and again I say we are blessed, especially when we think about the saying: I complained because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.”

Love and a prayer from Sister, Aunt, cousin and friend to all,
    Melba

    Hi again, Love,

    She’ll be 25 on Oct 13th

  42. Well, we are finally here at Kellen’s looking at the flottfamily website for the first time. I’ve read a few printouts. We are all doing fine in Abita Springs. Really enjoyed reading all of your comments and appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. It’s been a little rough in Abita, but compared to people in New Orleans and Slidell, we are in good shape. At least we have our lives, all of our family member lives and our homes. I haven’t heard how Irma and Oliver’s home in New Orleans is yet. I did hear that it had water. Larry and I came to visit Kellen and are having our first look at the Internet and television since August 28, 2005. We have now replaced our roof on our utility room and are working on cleaning up the mess. Katrina was terrifying to me. I have been through alot of hurricanes but never one like Katrina. In the future, we will leave home. Well, God bless you all and we love you all and thank you again for your prayers and will keep all of you in our prayers.
    Love,
    Peggy & Larry

  43. Happy Birthday Mitsi
    Love,
    Aunt Peggy & Uncle Larry

  44. Oliver, Shelia and Eliska went to New Orleans yesterday to see Irma & Oliver’s house. They ended up staying the entire day and working. Kieran came over and helped them as well. They had their shots before they went and wore protective clothing and respirators, but the gunk and mold was terrible. They packed up what they could salvage and put it upstairs to protect it. They were afraid the china cabinet would collaspe. We saw pictures of Irma and Oliver’s beautiful home. Their beautiful hardwood floors and all of their nice stuff. Everything is full of mold and sludge. They cleaned what they could. Kieran shoveled out the mud from the den. They came back to Abita last night and the girls came here for a well needed shower. Oliver took a bath at Melba and Vera’s. I think they are heading back to Chattanooga, TN today. The whole city is an entire mess. And of course, the insurance companies are trying to get out of paying for the damage if you only had homeowner’s insurance and not flood insurance. They are saying he damage is from the flood. Well, what caused the flood? Duh! I don’t know if people will ever be able to get the mold etc out of their homes. It is really sad. Please continue to pray for the people of New Orleans and Slidell trying to repair and clean what’s left of their homes. Some houses are completely gone. Things will never be the same in New Orleans. The population will be considerably lower, I’m sure as alot of peole won’t be coming back. Abita is cleaning up all the debris, but it will take a long time. Trees are down everywhere and the workers can do only so much a day. It’s a shame the timber that is being burned. People who cut trees etc are price gouging. A friend of mine had 8 1/2 acres and they want $25,000 to cut up the trees and haul them away. So they are trying to do it themselves. The stores finally started staying open later. They were all closing anywhere from 4 pm to 7 pm. With some of the evacuees gone, they can’t find enough employees. Everyone is affected one way or another. I saw on the Discovery channel (we finally have cable) that it will take about a year to get the New Orleans levee back to where it was. (for a Category 3 Hurricane) But what’s going to happen if we get another Katrina or Rita. It will flood again. So who would want to go back to that? Keep praying!
    Love,
    Peggy & Larry

  45. Aunt Lynne-

Sorry to hear that Cloice has become ill on his ‘vacation’. Hope he’s better soon and you can get back home.

  47. Hi all of you Webers!

    Is that the proper title?

    Family, relatives, friends and neighbors.
Like the swallows come back to Copistrano every March 19, Irma and Oliver
came back to New Orleans on Nov. 2nd to stay in their home again!
They still have no electricity, phone or gas, but they have water,
though low pressure. Upstairs is livable. Irma called with the
news happy to be back in her home. They have a generator until
further progress in the city. We thank God as things could have
    been much worse
