    another email:
    Dear Kellen,

Thank you so much for calling to let us know that everyone in Abita is okay. We were SO worried! I got an e-mail from Kaley, which was also a great comfort.

Has anyone heard from Aunt Irma and Uncle Oliver? Sean’s mom said they had evacuated before Monday morning, but I don’t know where they ended up.

Meanwhile, Sean spoke to Deirdre, and she was very relieved to know that her mom and Cloice are safe and the house is intact.

I sent e-mail to Roxanne in California and left a phone message for Aunt Mercia in Alaska (at least I think it was her voice mail… I got the number from directory assistance. If you can confirm it, that would be great: 907-488-9082.) Sean will ask Deirdre to call Aunt Rena.

So we are getting the word out. If there is anyone else we should call, please give me the numbers and I’ll pass along any and all messages, as needed. Feel free to call or e-mail us at any time of the day or night.

Send our love to everyone, and stay safe!

    Thanks again!!!

    Peggy

  3. Peggy & Sean Says:

Just wanted to let you know that I exchanged e-mail with your cousin Roxanne in California. She said Aunt Rena heard from Aunt Mercia via ham radio — so they also know that everyone is safe. Aunt Grace must be watching over all of you from heaven! God bless and keep you all. Call us any time (503-245-8558) or e-mail murfdorf@gmail.com.

  4. kellen Says:

Roxanne emailed looking for info on Joseph, Cathy & the kids. Corey called me and I asked him. He said Joseph and Cathy evacuated to Baton Rouge with Cathy’s sister.

Dad bought a generator and Corey drove all the way to denham springs to get gas for it. they have the I-12 road open again. family is safe, but no utilities or phone.

  40. kellen Says:

Does anyone have a phone number for Aunt Irma and Uncle Oliver? Aunt Melba wanted to know if we heard from them since they’ve been in tennessee to see how they are doing.

  41. kellen Says:

http://maps.google.com/ Google maps has added a special “Katrina” button that shows sattelite imagery after the hurricane…you can type in a specific address and view maps and images before and after the storm. The button seems to only show up for new orleans addresses , not for abita. I looked up Aunt Irma’s address (4523 annette street, new orleans, la) and it looks like the streets have water so the house probably has a bit of water in it.

  42. Amy Lynne Says:

    Hi Kellen,
I talked to Sheila yesterday and Aunt Irma and Uncle Oliver are doing fine they have been settling in there, they got out to social security and changed their mailing address and shopped a little for clothes and made it to mass yesterday, here is Sheila’s #423-843-9711. How are Aunt Melba and Vera doing? Tell them we send our love and are praying for them and all of you. Does anyone know anything about Sandra Flot McGee from Abita? 44. Gina Says:

“Lookig for Hilda Dapremont: George DeCou and daughter Denise DeCou are looking for you call 636-397-1888″

I called and left a message that if it is Aunt Hilda from the Lafon Nursing home that she was evacuated to Houma and also directed them to this webpage.

  45. Gina Says:

Just got off the phone with Ann Dapremont in Austin, TX. She is Edgar III’s wife. Edgar Sr and Yvette are with Peter in Atlanta. Edgar III is in Gulfport to help his Dad clean up. As far as she knows (she will double check) Anita and Myrtle are with Edgar Sr. Whew!!

I have sent word via Roger to tell Joseph to try and get in touch with Aunt Rena….Kellen try to call Missy and tell her that Roger sent word to reassure Aunt Melba and Aunt Vera that everything is fine at their house…they are keeping ice in the freezer to keep food from spoiling…Roger and Charletter are making sure everyone’s houses are secure and that they are keeping watch for everyone there at the “Flott” community….I took Florence and Roslyn to get meds yesterday and is working on getting them a generator…..my mom sent food to them and they come here for water(and other places) and I made sure they had gas in one of their cars……I told them to keep in touch with me in case they need anything….(they live about a mile from me)Jeff just took them a hot meal and is making sure they have ice…if they don’t…he will go get them some…. tell Justin that Mom and Dad said everything is fine….If anyone needs anymore info…contact me via e-mail….rbethg@yahoo.com or 985-796-3251 Kellen if you talk to your Mom or Daddy…tell them everything is fine here and for them to stay until they get power….Daddy needs the a/c…Beth

  50. Beth Says:

Dessie and Amanda are home…both have electric….(lucky them!!) Florence came by today for water, she has returned to work…I found them a generator that needed repaired so Troy is repairing it and he said it should be ready tomorrow (Tuesday) so Jeff and Troy will take it to them and hook them up…Florence was VERY excited!!! We are still “camping”…but I’m getting used to it. Florence said that she has always wanted to go camping….and now she is..she was looking on the bright side of the situation.Everyone here are still ok….Florence and Roslyn are a little short on funds but I am making sure they are not doing without…one thing I can say…they are so very thankful for the smallest of things…I’m learning from them…they work hard and I don’t hear them complain…they were washing clothes in water from the melted ice and never said anything about it….they said they were just happy to have a way to wash them. I think we should all send our “spoiled” children and teenagers to their house for a few lessons about life. I am just sorry that it took something like this for me to learn how honest..grateful…and caring they are. They have a lot of pride….I am sitting here thinking of all sorts of things….I am rambling on…I guess I just need to “vent” My emotions are running wild and this is a way for me to release. I have been staying very, very busy during the day and then at night I sit idle and start thinking about things….so I guess I need to rest , I am going to bed now…again…if anyone knows of any way I can help some one, please let me know….Beth

T-Mobile says it has restored wireless service in Southern Louisiana, specifically mentioning Abita Springs (excerpt from news report follows):

T-Mobile first reported Saturday it restored service at several downtown New Orleans wireless transmitters, including a high-capacity cell site running on generator power on the Crowne Plaza Hotel Astor on Canal Street.

Service is now available in much of the New Orleans downtown corridor — including the French Quarter, Convention Center and the Superdome — as well as additional service at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

As of Wednesday, T-Mobile said it has significant wireless coverage across Jefferson, Orleans and St. Tammany Parishes, and North Shore Communities. More specifically, T-Mobile now has wireless service in Abita Springs, Algiers, Almedia, Avondale, Boutte, Bridge City, Covington, Denham, Springs, Destrehan, downtown New Orleans, Elmwood, Greenville, Hammond, Harahan, Kenner, Laplace, Mandeville, Marrero, Metairie, New Sarpy, Ponchatoula, River Ridge, Slidell, St. Rose, Storyville and Westwego.

    Everyone-

As you’ve probably surmised by now, Katrina has put a major kink in David and I’s travel plans. Although we will not be able to visit Louisiana next month as we had planned, we have not given up on a trip in the near future.

We are considering Thanksgiving at the earliest and Mardi Gras at the latest. I am hoping that when we come down, we will be able to drink coffee with Uncle Oliver in his kitchen on Annette St. That’s one of my favorite parts of a Louisiana visit. And Annette St still floats today….

I was glad to hear that Aunts Melba and Vera are back in their own beds, I think that goes a long way towards they’re getting past this whole thing. I was having trouble imaging Melba out of her ‘space’! :)

Please pass this on to Uncle Larry & Peggy and to V & M. God Bless-

  70. Beth Says:

    Amy,
I’m sorry I haven’t been online lately, but my son’s father(my ex) has been battling cancer so I have been with my son, Quinten. They took his father off of life support today and he is still “hanging on”. We have only been aware of the cancer for a couple of weeks now, and didn’t know the extinct of it until a few days ago. Yesterday evening he took a turn for the worse , which was a complete shock to my son.So as of now…this minute…we are waiting for him to join the rest of our and his loved ones in a better place. I will call you probably in the next day or so….This is a very hard thing for me to go thru…watching my 16 year old watch his father die…….Please say a prayer for Quinten..for he will miss his dad…they were very, very close..I will update later…I have to keep phone line open, for that dreaded phone call..
    Beth

  71. Amy Lynne Says:

    Dear Beth,
I am so sorry to hear about Quinten’s dad, yes I will pray, for all of you. It is sad that he has to experience this, on top of all the other troubles in the world just now,
We can ask God for a special angel to comfort him and you.
My mother told me tonight that the families we were trying to locate are safe in Abita so we as a family have so much to thank God for. It is so difficult when someone is very ill, but even in this situation there may be found some blessings.
God’s Love to you and your family, Amy

  72. Beth Says:

    Amy,
Quinten’s Dad passed this morning at 3:35…Quinten asked me if that was “the call” when the phone rang….he was upset, but drifted off to sleep. It just hurts me to see my child hurt. But he will be ok…..Thank you for your prayers. Quinten still has a long road ahead, but he will be strong….he has a lot of friends and family to help him with his loss. Beth

  73. Beth Says:

Hello family….if anyone would like to send a hello to Quinten in his time of loss he would probably appreciate it. He feels lost right now. His dad’s funeral is Tuesday. It would be nice if he could hear from a few of you that he hasn’t even met. Right now, he realizes that family is very important and precious. Even though he has A LOT of family support here…..hearing from someone from somewhere else would let him know that EVERYONE cares and later when you all do get to meet him, he will remember the hello…thank you….Beth.Our address is…. We live in Phoenixville, Pa and have space available if anyone needs to get away for awhile. We would also like to help out financially in any way we can. If you have an address we can send mail to, please let me know. You are all in our prayers and we’re willing to help. I have heard from Gayle Daniel and Fabian and they are all doing okay. You can reach me on my cell, 610-996-8945, if you want too. Take care and may God bless you with His grace and peace!

  75. Allanagh & Jim Sewell Says:

Jim & I will NEVER stay for another storm. We are quite thankful that we are alive and well. We stayed during this storm and we really thought we were going to die. The winds and tornadoes in our area were scary. We lost most of our 10-acre fence, some trees, lots of limbs, barn damage and extensive roof damage that has affected four rooms in the house with water damage. And the worst was that one of our horses, Star-Baby, was hit my a piece of flying tin from the barn roof. Thank goodness she looks like she is going to make it. But, we are not complaining. We still have a roof over our head and we are alive. Nerves are shattered and it has been quite stressful. We just got power Saturday night, September 10. Still no phone or cell phone service. Just returned to work. Things are slowly becoming normal again. Glad to hear all others are okay. Will try to visit those in Abita this week to revisit.

  76. Amy Lynne Says:

    Dear Beth,
Our prayers are still with you and Quentin, I will send him a card, I am sorry you both had to go thru this.

Quinten read what you all wrote…thanks…he is a lost boy right now…even though he is 16…he was still his Dad’s “liitle” boy. They were very close…..but he will be ok…..time will heal all wounds….time heals wounds…but the scar stays…..Thanks… Beth

    Dear Everybody-
It’s day 20th I believe and the settlement family group in Abita Springs is still without electricity, water, telephone and gas. If Aunt Lynne reads this your refrig and freezer are cleaned(By day 8th the swollen and foamy was totally disgusting, your artsian has been a blessing and your psycho(cosmo)is fine-I think he’s beginning to like me. Jared and Seth both got jobs with the clean up Louisiana tree services that are scattered throughout the Parish. 86. Melba Says:

    Dear, Dear Kellen,

Kudos to you and “the band of Angels” who helped you put this project together. I read 15 pages worth last week and the more I read, the more facinated at the scope and far reaching of it.
We are still sans gas, electricty and a phone that goes and comes, but we are truly blessed. We have our house in good shape and many angels helping with all our needs. I won’t name names as you know who you are. Some keeping us supplied with ice, water, ect. Some who welcomed us with much love into their home, gave up their beds for us and fed us for almost a week. Today is September 22, 2005, and we are still being taken care of, such as baths and laundry.
Latest count in Abita was 13 homes beyond repair, 76 major damages, 31 minor damages, but so far no deaths while the poor folks in N.O. have lost homes and all their possessions, but the sadest part is the ones who lost loved ones, some whose bodies will never be found. The ones who were found, they don’t know if and when they will ever have a decent burial.
    They need our prayers.
So to all the ones who helped and still are helping, “Love is flowing like a river”. And in my daily prayers and again I say we are blessed, especially when we think about the saying: I complained because I had no shoes, then I met a man who had no feet.”

Love and a prayer from Sister, Aunt, cousin and friend to all,
    Melba

    Hi again, Love,
According to the news things are hectic in Lafayette. Be safe and God bless you.

Well, we are finally here at Kellen’s looking at the flottfamily website for the first time. I’ve read a few printouts. We are all doing fine in Abita Springs. Really enjoyed reading all of your comments and appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. It’s been a little rough in Abita, but compared to people in New Orleans and Slidell, we are in good shape. At least we have our lives, all of our family member lives and our homes. I haven’t heard how Irma and Oliver’s home in New Orleans is yet. I did hear that it had water. Larry and I came to visit Kellen and are having our first look at the Internet and television since August 28, 2005. We have now replaced our roof on our utility room and are working on cleaning up the mess. Katrina was terrifying to me. I have been through alot of hurricanes but never one like Katrina. In the future, we will leave home. Well, God bless you all and we love you all and thank you again for your prayers and will keep all of you in our prayers.
    Love,
    Peggy & Larry

  94. Anonymous Says:

Oliver, Shelia and Eliska went to New Orleans yesterday to see Irma & Oliver’s house. They ended up staying the entire day and working. Kieran came over and helped them as well. They had their shots before they went and wore protective clothing and respirators, but the gunk and mold was terrible. They packed up what they could salvage and put it upstairs to protect it. They were afraid the china cabinet would collaspe. We saw pictures of Irma and Oliver’s beautiful home. Their beautiful hardwood floors and all of their nice stuff. Everything is full of mold and sludge. They cleaned what they could. Kieran shoveled out the mud from the den. They came back to Abita last night and the girls came here for a well needed shower. Oliver took a bath at Melba and Vera’s. I think they are heading back to Chattanooga, TN today. The whole city is an entire mess. And of course, the insurance companies are trying to get out of paying for the damage if you only had homeowner’s insurance and not flood insurance. They are saying he damage is from the flood. Well, what caused the flood? Duh! I don’t know if people will ever be able to get the mold etc out of their homes. It is really sad. Please continue to pray for the people of New Orleans and Slidell trying to repair and clean what’s left of their homes. Some houses are completely gone. Things will never be the same in New Orleans. The population will be considerably lower, I’m sure as alot of peole won’t be coming back. Abita is cleaning up all the debris, but it will take a long time. Trees are down everywhere and the workers can do only so much a day. It’s a shame the timber that is being burned. People who cut trees etc are price gouging. A friend of mine had 8 1/2 acres and they want $25,000 to cut up the trees and haul them away. So they are trying to do it themselves. The stores finally started staying open later. They were all closing anywhere from 4 pm to 7 pm. With some of the evacuees gone, they can’t find enough employees. Everyone is affected one way or another. I saw on the Discovery channel (we finally have cable) that it will take about a year to get the New Orleans levee back to where it was. (for a Category 3 Hurricane) But what’s going to happen if we get another Katrina or Rita. It will flood again. So who would want to go back to that? Keep praying!
    Love,
    Peggy & Larry

Peace on earth, Goodwill toward men.

  102. Deirdre Says:

My heart goes out to all of you that are displaced and have lost so much; especially Aunt Irma and Uncle Oliver. It’s wonderful how the family has rallied around each other. Everyone was so supportive when Aunt Grace died, and then Katrina hit, and then Aunt Rena passed on. What I don’t understand is why when I called my mother today to wish her Merry Christmas she was in tears because once again, my mother decorated her house and bought gifts for family members that couldn’t be bothered to go an extra fifty feet from Larry’s house (which they stop by every year) to my mother’s. She has years of Christmas presents sitting in her closet that her family never picked up. I had hoped that after such a show of family solidarity in the wake of the recent disaster this behavior would finally change and my mother would no longer feel ostracized by her blood relatives. Now without her best friend, Aunt Grace, my mother is surrounded by family members who shun her for no reason. My one wish for Christmas was to call my mother and not have her crying. That wish was not fulfilled. I don’t understand why my mother is treated so cruelly. To the rest of you I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

    Sincerely,
    Deirdre

    To Whom It May Concern:
I am finally doing a little better with my health, so I thought I’d check out the family website to see if anyone had any news etc. Unfortunately, I have been quite ill and so has Larry and most of our family. Since Katrina, I have had three bouts of pneumonia. I had a lung function test and I am down to 48% lung capacity and my pulmunologist tells me that will never improve. Anyhow, I worked and worked and shopped and shopped to find the special gifts for everyone in our family, especially my beautiful grandaughter, Hailey and grandchildren, Amber and Austin. Then Christmas Eve, all of our children except Troy and most of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren came over as they do every year. We had worked so hard to prepare food and snacks and desserts for Christmas Eve and had a 20 pound turkey in the oven and a ham in the oven for Christmas Day. I was so tired all day and had a really hard time making it through the night but all in all we had a very nice visit with the kids. Brett and his family, Kellen, and Alicia and her family decided they wanted to wait until Christmas Day to open our gifts together. Then low and behold, Christmas morning came and I woke up with a sever stomach virus and spent the entire day in the bathroom and bed. So I was unable to either open my gifts or watch them open theirs. By late afternoon, Larry and Kellen brought me to the Emergency Room and I was dehydrated and my potassium was low, so they gave me two bags of I.V. fluids, something for the nausea and diarrhea. So, then, by the next day I was better, but weak as a kitten and Larry came down with it. He stayed pretty ill for several days. He saw a surgeon a couple of weeks ago and his Aortic Aneurysm is now 4.8 cm and they said they want to check it again in three months. Once it reaches 5.0 cm, they will operate. Larry is now feeling better and has been cutting as much fire wood as he could, since there are so many trees down, he is taking advantage of it while he is able
We have some wonderful news. Our daughter, Alicia is expecting her second baby on August 11, 2006. By then, Hailey will be 22 months old and quite ready for a little brother or sister. Please keep them in your prayers that both Mother and baby are safe and healthy.
    Now on to other things:
Not meaning to offend anyone deeply but there are some issues I must address. Ordinarily I wouldn’t address them on this website as I feel it was created to post news and communicate with one another, not post unwarranted complaints about non-existant situations. When Hurrican Katrina came through, we opened our doors for anyone who needed or wanted a place to stay, and also offered day time assistance to those who were unable to cook etc. We geniunely pulled together as a family as we all should and did the best we could to handle a very difficult situation. After four days of suffering in the heat without the luxeries we were used to, we found out our friend in Illinois has died from lung cancer and decided to leave and make a trip to his funeral. Our son, Kellen had made a trip home on Thursday evening and brought supplies he thought any of us might need and offered shelter to family members. My niece in Baton Rouge also offered shelter to those who needed it, so my son-in-law took his daughter, Hailey, our grandaughter, Cara and Aunt Melba and Aunt Vera to my niece’s house in Baton Rouge. My daughter, Alicia and my son, Brett were working 24/7 that week only catching an occasional nap when they could. They got to come home and see us for about one hour. Our son, Kellen, set up this website to communicate any news of how family members and their homes faired etc. and I believe everyone really appreciated it. He also took our grandson, Justin and his Aunt Lynne and Uncle Cloice to Lafayette to stay at his apartment until they could get a flight to L.A. He even offered to have a friend bring them to the airport since he had to work when they were leaving, but they told him he had done enough and they could take a cab. He did this very willingly and caringly, I believe. While they were away, Uncle Larry kept an eye on things at Lynne’s house, kept her car running and made several trips to her house just to check on things as did her niece, Laurette. When they returned, we went over and welcomed them home with open arms and told them how much we missed them. Since then, I don’t believe that either of them have visited our house one time. Larry has been over there a couple of other times. Their Christmas gifts are still sitting under the tree. We usually make the rounds on Christmas Day and visit Lynne and Cloice, Grace, and Melba and Vera and bring their Christmas gifts. Unfortunately this year our poor Grace had gone home to heaven shortly followed by her dear sister Rena. Then with our illness, we were unable to visit anyone. So anyone who did not visit us did not see us. When Melba and Vera came by Christmas morning for a few minutes to see why I wasn’t at church, they said they had to get on home and make gumbo and dinner so Lynne could either come and eat with them or bring some to her, but now they tell Larry that they called over and over again and got no answer on the telephone. Melba is 87 years old and Vera is 80, I believe. Forgive me if I am wrong on that account and I believe they do their very best to treat all their siblings fairly and equally. On more than one occasion I have seen them turn into Lynne’s driveway and not come here, but neither Larry, nor I was upset by this in any way.
I guess what I am trying to say here is that I apologize to those who may wonder what my whole point is, but I am answering the previous entry of how Lynne spent Christmas Day in tears and has years of gifts in her closet. If that is the case, maybe she should do like I do. If I have something for someone and after a certain period of time passes, they fail to come and pick them up, I open them up and either use them myself, or give them to someone else. My other point is that I believe Kellen created this website to share needed information with each other, not as a sounding board for people to express their displeasure with others. If one of us has a beef with someone, I feel it should be handled directly not for the general public to read, so after I make this entry, I am going to ask Kellen to remove this website. I feel when it has come to the point that dirty laundry has to be aired online, it’s time to remove the website, so to those of you who have enjoyed reading most of the entries and hearing from one another, I apologize. I wish you all a wonderful 2006 and I’m sure you, like Larry and I, will keep Irma and Oliver in your prayers for their recovery from Katrina. I hope and pray their home will be restored to its original beautiful state and that in the process, their health holds up. I’m sure they are working very hard along with their children and grandchildren and others who have helped them. After all that has gone on, we have alot to be thankful to our dear Lord for. And one of those things was our ability to communicate with one another in our time of need. I will really miss reading all of your news and will give you my email so that you can write us if you’d like to. Oh, and one more small thing I would like to mention. If you are the child or grandchild of any of my husband’s siblings, then his name to you is Uncle Larry – not Larry. If you don’t have enough respect to address him as such, then you don’t need to address him at all. My email address is: pflott@charter.net

  104. Kellen Says:

I just got home and read what was on the website. I agree whole-heartedly with what my mother said in her post. I won’t take the site down yet but if I feel it is being abused I will. It was my intention to eventually create a better site to replace it with where people could continue to share with one another. I think it’s sad that some feel the need to complain and make veiled accusations here. It goes completely against the spirit in which I intended it.

  105. Peggy Says:

I don’t know what Deirdre thought she would accomplish by her website posting on the 27th of December. I know what she did accomplish, letting the world see blatant disrespect and a severe case of paranoia.

  106. Beth Says:

Deirdre….my only comment is….DO NOT FORM A OPINION until you are here seeing this with your own eyes.I am very offended, everyone here has gone through so much, and we ALL helped one another. Were you home with your Mom at Christmas?I just cannot believe that you even thought about such. Aunt Lynne has never been shunned!!!!And notice…I said “Aunt”.I thought I would never get on this site and read such negative comments. That is not what this was intended for. Everyone has expressed their feelings and love for the other. I think we are a great family….you should spend a little more time with your mom and family and you will find that out. I am so sorry for everyone who reads this….it’s just that I am hurt when someone turns something positive into something negative….and I could not just let this go….this site served as a lifeline…..it was nice to come on and read about our family….to find out everyone was ok and to touch base with those who are not here that are praying for everyone’s recovery from the storm…when things seemed hopeless, at least we had this site to get on and read and know that we had each other, but now it won’t be here anymore….whoever is interested, my e-mail is rbethg@yahoo.com…. Beth (yes, I have issues about this, and it hurts my feelings)
